After the announcement made by the Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak about the “Jalur Lebar’ a.k.a. Internet connection via Fiber optics has been underway till now. TM workers worked 24/7 around the clock along major roads, digging and inserting rubbery black and red pipes. Great progress and good work to all the workers. Hopefully we get what we hoped for in terms of speed and reliability from fiber optics compared to the traditional copper telephone line. Fiber optics isn’t cheap, seriously. I studied communication engineering, fiber optics is part of the syllabus for my 2nd year. Fiber optics are made of glass and plastic. 80% glass and 20% of other insulated materials. We’re talking flexible glass which ordinary glass would break easily. Flexible glass which could transmit and receive information at a speed of light. Its a real awesome tech.
